What is the job?

This role sits within Picturehouse’s Independent Exhibitor Services team, which supports a wide range of independent cinemas across the UK - from charitable trusts and mixed‑use venues to multi‑screen, dedicated cinema sites. You’ll join a passionate programming department that delivers bespoke film programmes, audience development support and expert industry insight to our exhibitor network.

As a Film Programmer & Administrator, you’ll work closely with client venues to understand their programming needs, helping them build sustainable and vibrant audiences. Alongside programming, you’ll provide essential administrative support for the Independent Exhibitor Services team along with Picturehouse‑operated cinemas when required.

  • Location: 30 Orange Street, WC2H 7HH with occasional travel to cinemas and events.

  • Working Hours: Monday to Friday with occasional evenings and weekends required.

  • Salary: Up to £33,000 depending on skills & experience

What will you be doing?

  • You will build strong, collaborative relationships with designated client cinemas, gaining an understanding of their venue needs, audiences and programming priorities.

  • You’ll research new releases, classic titles and event cinema; analyse performance data; and recommend tailored programmes aligned with each venue’s targets.

  • You will negotiate with distributors to secure films and events on the best possible terms and within publicity deadlines.

  • You’ll maintain programming planners and ensure all film and booking information is accurately recorded in our internal systems.

About you

  • You bring strong written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to manage a complex and varied workload while meeting deadlines.

  • You have significant experience in a relevant area of the cinema industry, such as programming, administration, cinema management, box office, or film marketing.

  • You’re confident using common IT applications (Word, Excel, email) and proficient in learning new technology, systems and tools.

  • You have a sharp instinct for films that appeal to different audience segments, supported by broad knowledge of contemporary and classic cinema.

  • You’re a proactive team‑player with high attention to detail, strong self‑motivation, and the flexibility to juggle and prioritise tasks at short notice.

  • You will be a great fit, if our values resonate with you: We Create, We Perform, We Inspire.
