The successful candidate should have at least 2 years’ experience as a Projectionist working in a Digital Cinema operation which has rapid turnover of content. 

 

Picturehouse Central is a major West End venue for festivals and live events, such as Conferencing, Director/Panel Q&As, Multimedia events and press and industry screenings – you should be knowledgeable enough to be able to providing technical support for these, including working with non-cinema AV sources as well as sound and lighting desks and be comfortable with networking and wireless systems. As well as working with third party engineers and contractors. 

 

Experience in the preparation, presentation and dispatch of 35mm and 70mm  film is desired but not essential as training would be provided, as we regularly do full programmed runs of both gauges. 

 

Please note there is a requirement to work 40 hours over any of the seven days with regular work at evenings and weekends and opportunities to work additional hours as required.

Job Description: Projectionist
                         
Job Purpose

                         
To prepare and show films and other content throughout the cinema and to provide technical support to the cinema management and event teams.  To liaise with 3rd party contractors and engineers. To meet with clients and manage the dairy of upcoming events. 
Main Duties include but are not limited to:

 
 

The knowledge and behaviour required of a trained Projectionist is outlined in detail in the “Projectionist Job Elements” document (as may be updated from time to time). The duties include:

 

1.       Preparing films and other content for screenings in a timely manner, with due care to avoid damaging material; securing films and other content to avoid opportunities for film theft and preparing films and other content correctly for onwards transport.

2.       Showing films and other content in accordance with the cinema’s timetable and to the best possible standards of presentation.

3.       Maintaining and caring for projection, sound and other audio visual equipment to ensure that it is operating safely and to its optimum technical capacity.

4.       Alerting the Head Technician  (or equivalent) and/or Company Engineer about projection technical issues that you are unable to resolve and the General Manager and/or Company Maintenance Manager about building maintenance issues that you are unable to resolve.

5.       Providing a professional service to third party hirers of the venue.

6.       Maintaining your workspace in a clean, tidy and safe manner at all times.

7.       Liaising sufficiently with the front of house and management teams to enable the cinema to operate efficiently.

  1. Undertaking any other duties which may be reasonably requested of you by the Head Technician (or equivalent) or Management for the effective functioning of the cinema and projection room.

 

Notes to the job description

  1. In the event of a technical problem you should contact the Chief Projectionist (or equivalent) or Company Engineer. If neither is available to talk to and where work appears necessary for the cinema to operate you are authorised to undertake or commission such work as is necessary to prevent any screenings being lost, provided that you gain approval from the manager on duty. You should do so in the most economic manner possible and then discuss the matter with the Company Engineer when he becomes available.
  2. Your maintenance duties will involve climbing ladders.
